Ars Lyrica Houston presents Monteverdi’s Orfeo—often called the first great opera—in a vibrant production featuring the New York Baroque Dance Company. This is a unique chance to experience the kind of spectacle that helped shape French musical life for generations: an early Baroque masterpiece where music, movement, and theater are inseparable.
For audiences who love French culture and the performing arts, Orfeo offers a fascinating look at the roots of the operatic tradition that would later flourish in France under Lully, Charpentier, and Rameau. Even more rare: this production includes historic Baroque dance, bringing to life the gesture and style that once defined the courtly stage.
