Art as a Bridge for Welcoming and Understanding
“Open the door”
Designed to strengthen the cultural bridge between Texas and France, Open the Door invited the people of Houston to become active participants in a vibrant international art exchange.
This citywide initiative brought unique, interactive art installations to 19 culturally significant locations across Houston, encouraging the public to discover and engage with both local and French creativity.
Each installation featured a beautifully crafted door, displaying an original artwork on one side and its transatlantic counterpart on the other.
Created by 12 leading artists from Texas and France, and enriched by contributions from student laureates, professional artists, and special guests, the project showcased a dynamic blend of artistic voices.
Open the Door was made possible by a collaboration between the Texan-French Alliance for the Arts (TFAA) and Paris-based art collective 9ème Concept.
