A Taste of Culture at MFAH
A Tri-Cultural Celebration

Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
TFAA’s Chairman, Mickey Henry, Arts Program Director, Yvonamor Palix and Executive Board Assistant, Orianne Bidaud attended the MFAH’s Myths & Leyendas family afternoon. Yvonamor Palix curated a learning experience for children encompassing the tri cultural history of Texas, Mexico and France.
Children and their parents were invited to the booth to celebrate the fusion of gastronomy (the bread making art from France ) to Mexico. This tradition of Pan Dulce is a daily celebration in Mexican homes and for special holidays. It has been adopted by Texans as well.
The workshop consisted of images of a selection of classical still life paintings from the MFAH collection that were printed to serve as models for the children to copy or draw inspiration from with beautiful colored pencils. This class was taught by an established Houston artist, Alex Gutierrez.
